FINAL DAYS OF THE MCA MUSEUM SUMMER EXHIBITIONS

Still time to enjoy the final week of the MCA Museum summer season with 4 diverse exhibitions on display through August 7th, 2016!

The Main Gallery features the much raved about El Mac: Aerosol Exalted, From the Street to the Gallery, which offers a handsome collection of artwork from internationally renowned street artist EL Mac. Originally the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center created this exhibition and EL Mac has included a few recently completed new artworks. His work is influenced by his Chicano and Mexican culture, graffiti art and classic European art, which he seamlessly blends together resulting in a style truly his own. He creates stunning portraits of everyday people, “With his signature rippled line style, El Mac creates photorealistic portraits, often using family, friends and individuals underrepresented in society as models”, states MCA Museum. Also be sure to check out the striking 35-foot mural located in the museum courtyard, which depicts a young woman holding a rose.

DISCOVER “THE NEW ANIMIST” AT ASU ART MUSEUM

It’s time to take the entire family to the ASU Art Museum and explore “The New Animist” exhibition. The ASU Art Museum recently underwent a month long refurbishing to kickoff the summer, reopening in July with new exhibitions spotlighting its delightful and diverse art collections.

A strikingly large sculpture of a resting horse, composed of recycled materials greets visitors as they enter the gallery. “The New Animist” brings together a diverse range of subject matter connected through Animism selected from the wonderful ASU collection. An interesting exhibition that is sure to make you reflect and examine the ideas behind “Animism”, which refers to “the age-old belief that everything in the universe possesses a spiritual energy or life force”. Due to environmental issues and our society’s focus on bringing awareness to such issues, Nemelka has reimagined Old Animism to make it relevant for today with a stimulating exhibition that reminds us to focus on respecting our planet and everything in it!

JOURNEY THROUGH NATHANIEL LEWIS’S THE CATACOMBS OF PROFESSOR MCGEE

Scottsdale Public Art has partnered up with local artist Nathaniel Lewis to created a fantastic interactive art installation in the Gallery @ The Library Scottsdale Civic Center. Get lost in the artist’s mysterious and wonderful world as you venture through and enjoy The Catacombs of Professor McGee. The spacious 2500 square foot gallery has been transformed into the fantastical world of Professor McGee complete with 19th Century house set in his exciting and unusual to explore. “Visitors young and old will learn about archaeology, fossils, local history, and science, and discover the fantastic creatures and secret passageways of Professor McGee’s home”, states Wendy Raisanen, the Curator of Exhibitions and Collections.

As you enter the gallery visitors are transformed into explorers and given their very own field journal to document their findings as they explore magical world of Professor McGee. Visitor’s young and old can enjoy the wonderful world Professor McGee exploring his laboratory and it’s specimens, crossing the hot lava, dress up in costumes, take a ride in the buggy, examine flora and fauna under a microscope and so much more.
